How much does a marketing video cost ?

In most cases when you ask a video production company for the cost of a video typically you will be met with a vague answer. The reason for this is that video contains so many variables, such as equipment, production time, post-production time, actors, voice-overs, location fees, and so on! So it's understandable that video production businesses keep their pricing undisclosed. But, what about you the customer? As a customer, all you want is an approximate cost so you can figure out whether video is a realistic option for you or if you'll have to do it yourself.

In the field of video production, there are three primary options: freelancing, small business and huge production company.

The ideal sort of company to choose will most likely be determined by your budget and video concept. Let's take a closer look at your options:

Freelancers

The majority of video production companies begin here. 1 or 2 young men or women who want to build a reputation for themselves. These are people who have no overheads and are usually fresh out of university or film school. Young and carefree, they work for the experience and a little cash to get by.

A freelancer's day fee ranges between $400 - $1000. This is an excellent pricing for people with a limited budget. So, if you're searching for a low-cost option, this may be ideal.

There are a few things to keep in mind, though;  freelancers are always risky. They don't normally have a track record, so select someone that comes with a referral if possible.

When it comes to risk, make sure they have the appropriate insurance. I doubt you want to accept the risk of having a camera operator without insurance.

Furthermore, these individuals are often camera operators and editors. I don't mean it in a negative way; I simply mean that if you're looking for a video marketing strategy, a distribution strategy, or even good interviewing skills, this may not be the best option for you.

Prepare to do some, if not all, of the legwork in terms of generating a shot list, organizing a day's schedule, obtaining your location, drafting interview questions, and so on.

Also, while this is a wonderful day rate, make sure you know what is and isn't included. Is there a round of edit changes included, or is it a separate day rate? Are you going to serve lunch? Can they guarantee a delivery date? Where does the background music come from?

These are all key considerations to address when hiring a freelance video producer.

Small Production Companies

The majority of the market is made up of small video production firms, each of which will charge a little different fee and offer somewhat different services.

Prices for a business promotional video with one-day filming range from $2000 to $3500.

But what exactly do you receive for your money?

Changes and modifications are generally included in the price. Additionally, small video production companies will usually include a meeting before  filming to take in any important information, such as the video's content and your goals.

What to look out for:

Do they charge any additional fees, such as travel and costs, on top of your quote?

Are they assisting in the creation of the video's content and ideas?

Who is supplying the music, once again?

Will they commission custom music for you or purchase a royalty-free track?

The advantage of investing a little more is that these organizations typically have a good track record (which can be confirmed through reviews and their own case studies and testimonials), so you can trust them to complete your project on time, on budget, and to your specifications.

Small video production companies usually have a process in place... If the process isn't clearly written out, that should be a red flag for you.

Video production companies of this size should be talking to you about video strategy and distribution at this pricing point. If not, they might be a high-priced freelancer in disguise.

Small businesses should normally have the necessary insurances in place, but they should also have a crew. A crew implies that, unlike your one-man band freelancers, if something goes wrong on the day of the shoot (for example, if someone gets sick, something breaks, or your location closes), the small business should be able to cover it. If your freelancer has unexpected family issues, it will have a direct impact on the delivery of your project - something you can usually prevent with a small company.

So, how do you make your choice?

Finally, read through everything that is provided, as well as their prior work, but it is critical that you meet with them in person or virtually. Getting a sense of their personality and whether or not you'll get along with them should be a major consideration. You won't be able to make a great video unless you can speak freely and honestly with your video producers, which comes from establishing a good connection from the start.

Large Production Houses

These are the  company's  that make Pepsi commercials, John Lewis commercials, and other big-name commercials.

These company's have extensive expertise in writing, narrative, and large-scale productions. Prices  range from $10,000 to $20,000+.

Why is that significant? In the long run, having experienced individuals who know how to handle people, locations, props, costumes, and other variables will save you money.

You should anticipate a lot of meetings when you spend that much money on a video production. There is a lot of discussion regarding strategy and distribution. You may also expect a lot of fine tweaking and an iterative video production process. There's also the matter of prestige to consider. Many huge production firms will have worked with well-known brands, which might be beneficial to your campaign.

So, do you receive a lot of bang for your buck? In most situations, you get what you pay for, but it's important double-checking the expenses to make sure you're not simply paying for a brand name.

Make sure you're comfortable with the procedure and that you know exactly what you're paying for – and that you'll get a high-quality movie with enough of a result to justify your investment.
